Chromos Molecular Systems Inc. is the world leader in the commercialization and development of Artificial Chromosome technology for use in cellular and transgenic protein production and gene therapy.
A privately held company, launched in 1996, Chromos has engineering, development and production facilities in Vancouver, Canada and conducts discovery research in Hungary. The Vancouver facility which includes a pilot plant, is the only one in the world capable of producing artificial chromosomes in meaningful quantities and levels of purity.
Chromos' satellite DNA-based artificial chromosome (SATAC) has several advantages over existing vector systems. It has a large DNA carrying capacity and can be custom designed to include large and/or multiple genes. Further, SATACs do not integrate into target cell DNA.
Chromos is currently focussing on the engineering and optimization of their Artificial Chromosome technology for production of commercial products in cellular and transgenic systems.

The use of mammalian artificial chromosomes would allow for increased DNA carrying capacity, optimized gene expression and stability in cellular production systems.
The Chromosomal construct can be used as a stable gene delivery vehicle that can be inserted at the embryonic stage to precisely target desirable traits with a high level of specificity and efficiency that has, to date, been lacking in other methods.
