Christie Communications' motto says most of what the company is all about: "Designing Messages that Work". Whether that message is based in print, video, audio, CD-ROM multimedia or the Internet, the key is in the design and selection of appropriate media. That is Christie Communications' forte. We pride ourselves in our ability to meet client needs. We have also, more recently, begun to develop our own line of generic training materials, first in the most important field of health and safety. See our Web Site for more details on who we are and what we do.

While our primary focus is in the development of training materials for business and industry, we have a significant skill set in the creation of display support materials in museum venues. We have done a number of projects for museums, visitor centers and the like. This is an application that requires sensitivity to both staff and visitors and careful attention to doing the job while not overwhelming the exhibits themselves.

While it is not our preference, Christie Communications has been called upon to complete significant projects in minimum time. We finished a major interactive multimedia display for the Icefield Gallery at the Columbia Icefield in 9 weeks. We completed two projects for alberta wellnet each in less than two months. In every case, we have taken care not to compromise quality despite aggressive schedules. The best testimony to our success is the amount of repeat business we have from our major clients. Alberta Environment has done 4 projects, ATCO Gas a dozen or more, ATCO Singlepoint--two, Agrium fertilizer- -six, and the list goes on.

Computer Based Training systems are taking the world by storm. CBT is just in time training at the learner's work location. It is, typically up to four times faster than traditional training and with the expansion of this industry, it is rapidly becoming a commodity that can be acquired for a fraction of development cost by seeking out the relevant generic products which are now entering the market. Christie Communications Ltd. is committed to this technology for the future.
Whether you need a custom built training package, a custom build CBT delivery environment or some modification of a generic version of either, Christie Communications can do the job for you. We are solutions oriented.
While Christie Communications uses its graphics and multimedia talents primarily in the creation of its own products and custom productions for clients, we are willing and able to undertake parts of a project on behalf of other organizations and to participate in joint ventures with similar organizations around the world.
Whether it is a full training environment, a short course, a EPSS system, or a kiosk, Christie Communications has the expertise and the technology to meet your needs.
The key to successful completion of computer software projects is closely monitored project management. Christie Communications uses software tools as appropriate to manage projects, ensure nothing is missed and to bring projects in on time and on budget.

A Worker's View of Ergonomics
This course covers the basic principles of ergonomics in all areas of a worker's life: at the workplace, at home, and in recreational activities. The course provides a mechanism for reviewing any activity to determine what the problems might be and suggest methods for devising solutions to those problems. The course also covers several common types of problems, where and why they occur in both the workplace and at home, and what the worker can do to prevent them. A holistic approach to ergonomics, both on and off the job, is taken in this course. And this course is designed for all of your workers - both in the field and in the office.
This course is currently print-based, and is being developed for computer based delivery.
The National Lumber Grading Authority rules for the grading of construction grade lumber requires the ability to work with lumber and mathematics quickly and accurately. This critical skill requires training to a high level, and this takes time. Making the Grade not only provides base skills, but cuts the amount of training time while increasing the effectiveness of this training. This product has been produced in partnership with the Alberta Forest Products Association and Northern Lakes College.
Confined Spaces
There are four Confined Space courses: The Worker's Role, The Supervisor's Role, The Manager's Role, and Rescue in Confined Spaces. These courses consider the dangers and necessary precautions involved in confined space work and administration. Whether the learners work within these spaces or are responsible for the safety of those who do, these courses give a thorough understanding of the hazards, work prodcedures, and preventative measures appropriate to work in confined space. The Supervisor's and Manager's courses also deal with legislation and standards, and help the learners develop job plans and Codes of Practice.
These courses are currently available in a print format.
Incident Investigation
Incident Investigation defines what an incident is and discusses why and when investigations are done and who is involved. The course then leads participants through a nine step process:
Step 1 - Take Care of Injured Workers Step 2 - Secure the Scene Step 3 - Planning Step 4 - Observation Step 5 - Interview Documentation Step 6 - Review Documentation Step 7 - Analyze the Information Step 8 - Develop Recommendations Step 9 - Report Your Findings
This course includes a set of forms that can be used during an incident investigation. The investigation techniques taught in this course are a combination of standard health and safety investigation techniques and police/fire investigation practices.
Use this course to teach your learners how to use the best investigation strategies found worldwide.
This course is available in both print (for self study or more traditional delivery) and in Multimedia CBT (for Windows).
An Introduction to Working Safely
This course provides a generic introduction to working safely that you can give to all of your workers. It teaches a number of health and safety concepts including motivation for safe work, what 'commitment' really means, rights and responsibilities, common safety systems, and general safety rules. The next section teaches the safe use of of various tools and equipment (ladders, scaffolding, road vehicles, forklifts, hand tools, radiography, gas cylinders, and overhead power lines). Then learners are taught safety considerations for types of work and activities (housekeeping, signaling, manual lifting, storage, welding, lockouts, confined spaces, trenches, working at heights, and inspections). This information packed course also provides an overview of personal protective equipment, WHMIS/right to know, responding to emergencies, and incident investigations.
This course is available in both print (for self study or for use in more traditional delivery modes) or in CBT Multimedia. (This course is presently delivered in DOS.)
WHIMIS
More and more jurisdictions are enacting legislation which ensures that workers know about hazardous products in their workplace. This course is modelled around the legislative requirements for hazard awareness training in Canada. This product is available in either print or as an on-line (Web based) training package.
Safety Related Internet Resources
As millions of users sign onto the Internet every month, more and more are looking for specific resources to meet their personal or professional objectives. Many of these individuals need access to current resources about safety and health in the workplace. Christie Communications has created an annotated database of close to 3000 e-mail addresses, Web sites, list servers, Usenet feeds, and FTP sites. In order to get the most out of this extensive list (which is available by entering http: //www. mrg. ab. ca/christie/safelist. htm) many users have requested a course of study which will assist them in accessing and evaluating these resources. This little course is for them.
Working In Teams
Team building is all the rage in companies worldwide. Dave Turner, the Principle of Turner Associates, has found that one of the places where new team environments often fail is in the adaptation to the new working environment by workers for whom this new reality is strange and frightening. Mr. Turner has had considerable success in creating a learning sequence to assist these workers in understanding what it is to work in a team environment and then to do so in a successful manner. Mr. Turner has created a distance based, instructor led course to bring this approach to distant audiences.
Writing for Impact
Writing in the business environment is one of the most important and yet one of the most taken for granted skills in the workplace. Bonnie Hutchinson, senior consultant at Hutchinson Associates, has run hundreds of seminars for thousands of people dealing with how to write for impact in the business environment. The biggest problem with a traditional delivery course is that writing is a solitary activity. This course takes advantage of Bonnie's considerable skill and mentoring abilities while still providing the learner with the solitary time necessary to create written documents and submit them for review and comment. As part of this course, Bonnie will help learner's work through the development of a document of their choice.
Incident Prevention
This print based course covers the basic causes of incidents and methods which can be used to reduce or eliminate incidents. Included in this course are sections on hazard analysis, hazard control, inspections, responsibility, training, recognizing hazards, barriers and enablers, teamwork, communication, decision making, corrective action, hiring, employee assistance programs, emergency preparedness, incident investigation, claims management, auditing, record keeping, and promotions.
