CRIQ has developed a software program for quickly calculating formulations for multi-waste compost. This software enables users: to easily and quickly calculate formulations. Its user-friendly approach is specifically designed for WindowsTM; to directly simulate on the computer different recipes using many types of waste; to assess the impact of each of the ingredients in the formulation on the composting and on the quality of the compost to be produced.
Technical Characteristics: FORCE3 uses three modules: A database to register and store your products' properties; a module of manual calculations to rapidly calculate formulas; an automatic calculation mode to select the best formula.
Features of the FORCE3 databank: Can contain an unlimited number of products; lists more than 39 properties, that can be modified as desired, for each of the products (ex. : water content, organic matter content, C/N ratio, etc.); lets you index and save your products'properties on a computerized file.
Main functions of the manual calculation module: filing of and access to previously calculated formulas; transfer of formulas calculated in automatic mode to manual mode; calculates ingredient formulas for compost according to product properties; calculates compost properties; simultaneously calculates from 1 to 8 ingredients selects quantities by volume (m3) or weight (kg) for each of the ingredients; displays units of measure (%, mg/kg, kg/m.t.) for calculation results; displays calculation results directly on screen; prints out results; displays classes of compost quality on screen; enables calculations with loss of mass during composting.
Main functions of the automatic calculation module: modification and registration of the automatic calculation hypotheses; calculates ingredient formulas for compost according to product properties; offers a selection of possible parameters for formulas (Water content, C/N ratio, cost); offers a selection of calculation increments for volumic proportion of each ingredient; calculates from 1 to 8 ingredients; displays formulas that meet desired parameters; prints out results.
It also includes: a function to display properties of quality classes of compost according to Canadian standard CAN/BNQ 0413-200 or to anyother standard; a function to easily select ingredients; a help function for on-screen consultation.
Minimum computer equipment required to operate FORCE3: compatible 486 PC; 8 Meg RAM; printer; Windows 95.

Treatment In Situ Or Ex Situ Of Soils Contaminated With Light Hydrocarbons.
CRIQ has over ten years of solid expertise in the field of the environment. Their soil remediation facilities, entirely made of concrete, are at the forefront of technological innovation.
CRIQ's multi-material platform, with a total capacity of 8000 m3, not only enables CRIQ's specialists to conduct research and development but
also to undertake commercial activities. Soils contaminated with light hydrocarbons can be treated on a commercial basis.
The research area has six test platforms that can each handle batches ranging from 20 m3 to 40 m3. Work to validate new treatment technologies and measure environmental impact is also done in this area. This too is where the BIOSORTM is located. The BIOSORTM is a specialized biofilter that simultaneously treats the liquid and gaseous effluents from the overall activities carried out on the site.
The part of the platform reserved for commercial soil decontamination occupies an area of over 3000 m2 where up to 8000 m3 of contaminated soil can be treated. Technical demonstrations on batches of up to 600 m3 are also authorized on this section of the platform.
As well as being able to treat contaminated soils at its facilities in the Qubec Metro High-Tech Park, CRIQ, in partnership with the company Traita-Sol inc., can also manage in situ treatment projects.
Platform Specifications: total capacity of 8000 m3,
6 experimental cells, two of which are covered for simulating weather conditions (40 m3 capacity each);
multi-purpose, concrete surface; equipped with a BIOSOR, an exclusive treatment system for simultaneously treating liquid and gaseous effluents;
safe facilities, registered ISO 9001, and meeting the requirements of the Ministre de l'Environnement et de la Faune du Qubec.
