Caytec Equipment Ltd.
Over the past 25 years Caytec Equipment Ltd., has
experienced a steady growth both in the products it
manufactures and distributes, and in the industries to which it
provides those goods and services. The establishment of the
company came as a direct result of economic pressure, at a
time when many industries were feeling the beginnings of a
recession, and determination.
Founder Peter Vanderlinden, along with Burke Schumacher started Caytec Equipment Ltd. in 1982 , with a pickup truck and one mechanic in the shop. Originally located behind the old Tradewinds Hotel on Glenmore Trail, the outlet was relocated as business increased. In 1985 the company moved to Blackfoot Trail and since, 1992, now occupies the building at 3939 54th Avenue, S.E., in the Foothills Industrial Park. As business steadily grew, staff increased and today Caytec employs over 55 people in Calgary..
In 1995 the company opened a branch in Edmonton, now located at 10571 - 178 Street in the Northwest business district, with a present staff of 15.
In 2004, the company was acquired by DEL Equipment Ltd. (www.delequipment.com), headquartered in Toronto, with branches in Moncton, Montreal, Burlington, Regina and Vancouver. The addition of the Alberta market to the DEL organisation made the company into a truly National Company.
Leading the management team with Peter and Burke are;
Mr. Kerry French, Branch manager in Edmonton, Dean Pavlik (DJ), parts manager in Calgary, Dan Bogart, parts manager in Edmonton, Terry Nairne, service manager in Calgary and Ken Wurban, service manager in Edmonton. The sales force consists of Dean Dorigatti, Phil Blancher and Dave Nieuwkerk in Calgary and Percy Rawlyk, Ron Stuehmer and Andrew Horan in Edmonton. Head Purchaser is Gerald Irwin in Calgary.
Essential to the overall success Caytec has achieved, is
the highly competent and skilled staff that completes the team,
like Joan Clarke, Controller, who has single-handedly looked
after the entire accounting department for eighteen years! ``We are
extremely proud of the people who represent the company,``
acknowledges Peter. ``We have a very loyal group of people
who work together well. They can only be recognized as
Caytec`s primary asset.`` For the most part, the employees of
this company are long-term members who collectively realize
that the company will only be as good as its weakest link;
therefore, each strives to be exceptional in their role within
Caytec. Through repeated business dealings and an
impressive list of clients it becomes evident that they have
achieved their goals - together.
A tour of the 50,000 square foot facility bears witness to the
diversity that Caytec encompasses. While in one area sheets
of steel and aluminum are meticulously shaped to fulfill
custom orders and manufacture elaborate bodies, headache racks and toolsheds, another area is installing a winch on an oilfield tractor or a crane on a delivery deck truck. Specialty van and rescue bodies are manufactured here as well. In the isolation of the paint booth, the finishing coats are applied to various equipment to match specific company colours and individual requests. Catering to many
industries including oilfield, transportation, construction,
utility, towing and municipalities, there is very little this company cannot equip.
Winches, PTO`s, snowplows, wreckers, hoists, dumpbodies
are only part of the inventory on hand while hydraulic,
pneumatic and mechanical controls as well as roll-off loading
systems enhance the abilities of many a truck throughout our
province. New to the inventory is the recent addition of
electronic and radio remote controls that further prove this
company is on the leading edge. Caytec Equipment Ltd.,
provides hydraulic cranes and winches as well as towing
equipment to some of the largest companies throughout
Alberta. In addition, the company manufactures an extensive
line of truck accessories including cargo and welding decks,
services and mechanic bodies, toolboxes, canopies and
toolsheds. Unique to Caytec and essential to particular orders
is the ability to manufacture products in conventional steel
fabrication or its lighter and more durable rival, aluminum.
Caytec also takes pride in being an authorized distributor for
some of the industry`s most significant and recognized names
including Effer, Elliott, Auto Crane, NRC, Swaploader, DP, Ramsey, Tecnord, Cargobody, APSCO, OMFB, Nordsen and more. Believing in supplying the best products possible, Caytec has carefully chosen the most respectable and reliable products available.
Caytec`s priorities are carefully calculated and intentional
when it comes to servicing clients. Primary concern is to look
after their customers who have been very loyal and
instrumental in the success of the company. ``While the
pursuit for new business is ongoing and welcome, our primary
goal is to look after our established customers.`` explains
Peter. ``We want to continue to live up to their needs in
every way possible. That means concentrating on providing
superior products and services and not spreading ourselves
too thin.
For Caytec Equipment Ltd., the success of the company
includes the quality and safety of the environment in which
they work. This amicable group shows genuine interest in the
well-being of each other and the workplace they collectively
maintain. Over the last five years Caytec has received Workers`
Compensation refunds that could not have been achieved
without the effort of the entire staff. The implementation and
upgrading of safety procedures is an on-going endeavour and,
in conjunction with the Metal Fabricators Safety & Health
Association, the people at Caytec strive to maintain their
impeccable safety record.
As this company continues to realize its full potential within
the industry, it acknowledges the support and encouragement
of the communities it has prospected in. Quietly contributing
to numerous charities and charitable events. Caytec has been
especially generous to underprivileged children and their
related causes donating time, money and opportunities to the
pillars of tomorrow`s society.
While future plans to physically expand are not an immediate
priority, Caytec continuously develops its inventory and
capabilities to better serve the increasing demands of the
many industries it caters to. Focusing primarily on the
continuing solidification of the company`s foundation and
providing customers with exceptional products and services,
Caytec pledges to be part of the wave of the future as far as
equipment and technology allow. In our fast-paced world
those small remote control trucks children play with will soon
be life-sized.
Caytec Equipment Ltd., has surpassed many milestones in its
25 years in business. The company`s mission to provide a
``one-step`` outlet for quality truck equipment and accessories
is challenged by few competitors. Crucial to this achievement
is the level of quality they promise and deliver as well as the
assurance that these standards will never diminish. Having
earned the respect of those within the industry as well as the
communities they are part of, Caytec Equipment Ltd., strives
to maintain that recognition and surpass the future
expectations of those who have been instrumental to its
success - the people, the industry and the communities.
