Canadian Polystyrene Recycling Association

The Canadian Polystyrene Recycling Association (CPRA) is an industry-supported organization formed in November 1989 by 22 major Canadian businesses and organizations comprised of primary polystyrene plastic resin manufacturers, converters-to-product and representatives of key end-users.

CPRA operates an 82,000 ft.2 recycling facility located in Mississauga, Ontario, utilizing state-of-the-art technology to recycle most types of polystyrene. Recyclable material is collected from sources including the municipal blue box program in Ontario, and approximately 500 companies within the Industrial, Commercial and Institutional (IC&I) sector in the Greater Toronto Area.

CPRA's mandate is to recycle products made from polystyrene plastic in an environmentally acceptable manner, and to increase public awareness to encourage polystyrene recycling. Public tours of the facility are available.

Recycling Foam Into Polystyrene Pellets.
The Canadian Polystyrene Recycling Association recycles foam and rigid polystyrene products from the food service and retail industries. In addition, foam packaging that is used to protect electronic equipment, household appliances, auto parts and other fragile goods from breakage during shipping is recycled. Polystyrene pellets that are produced in the recycling process are sold to companies that remould them into office and school accessories, video and audio cassettes, horticultural accessories and other consumer goods.
