The Canadian Petroleum Institute was established in 1982, and is now widely recognized as the pre-eminent supplier of Canadian experience and expertise to the world's petroleum industry. Personalized service, Canadian alliances and a global network of alumni are the cornerstones of the Institute's enviable reputation.
As an independent, not-for-profit organization, the Institute provides world-class management and technical training to international petroleum companies. It acts as a liaison between Canadian and foreign oil and gas companies and agencies.
The Institute's objectives are to expose companies outside of Canada to the best operating practices in the Canadian petroleum industry, to introduce emerging North American technology and business practices, and to provide opportunities for lasting business relationships to develop between Canadian and foreign petroleum companies. Central to the Institute's success are its strategic alliances with companies in the operating and service sectors of the Canadian petroleum industry, the University of Alberta, the University of Calgary, and the governments of Alberta and Canada.
Since 1982 more than 1000 senior level managers, technical leaders and government officials from over 60 countries have taken advantage of the Institute's professional development programs. The Institute's International Executive Petroleum Management Program is designed specifically for corporate managers, senior technical specialists, and government officials. The Executive Program is an intensive experience that challenges participants through a combination of formal instruction and integrated field and plant visits. The Program provides an invaluable forum in which to examine emerging issues and developments in the international energy sector.
In addition, through the use of workshops, field visits and case studies to illustrate technological developments and effective management and leadership techniques, the Canadian Petroleum Institute offers a number of short courses to assist client organizations in achieving higher returns. These courses, offered in Canada and internationally, are custom designed to meet a client's specific training requirements.
The Canadian Petroleum Institute offers its professional management consulting services to governments and petroleum companies around the world. Areas of consultation include Regulatory and Capacity Building Projects, Training Needs Assessment, Feasibility Studies, Project Management, and Procurement. The Canadian Petroleum Institute markets its services and programs through an existing network of alumni and several overseas representatives as well as through marketing trips abroad.
