Canadian Aviation Maintenance Council
The Canadian Aviation Maintenance Council (CAMC) is an all-stakeholder, not-for-profit organization responsible for the human resources strategy for aviation maintenance and aerospace manufacturing in Canada. As the aviation industry's sector council, CAMC champions and encourages initiatives to develop the overall strength and economic well-being of the industry through the development of national occupational standards for skilled occupations; professional certification for technicians; the development of curriculum and accreditation of training institutions; youth orientation programs; best-of-practice training; as well as retraining, recruitment, and retention strategies for the future.
To date, CAMC has developed national occupational standards for 19 aviation and aerospace occupations, with more being developed.
The Council currently has over 180 Corporate members and more than 3000 individual members.

Accreditation & Certification
CAMC issues several types of certificates as part of its accreditation and certification processes. CAMC accreditation is granted to training institutions and certification is awarded to individuals. Both receive certificates for their accomplishments.
Certificates issued to training institutions attest that an institution is authorized to deliver a CAMC training program, and has met all of the requirements for delivery of the program. An 'accreditation' certificate of this type is issued after CAMC has reviewed the organization's Training Control Manual (TCM), and performed a site audit.
CAMC also issues individual certificates to those who are seeking to have their skills evaluated at the national standard. In order to obtain this certification', candidates must meet all the certification requirements and prove they possess the necessary skills, knowledge and competencies to perform their job. For individuals to achieve this objective, they must complete a CAMC logbook. The logbook serves to document the participants training and work history, and serves as proof of compliance with the practical requirements for a given occupation.
National Standards Development
National Occupational Standards define the skills, knowledge, and competencies required to perform the duties of an occupation. These sets of standards form the basis for training, curriculum development, accreditation of training programs, recruitment, performance improvement, career development and the certification of practitioners.
CAMC directs the development of an occupational standard by conducting an occupational analysis with individuals from national advisory committees representing the aviation industry, training organizations, labour, government and educational institutions. This ensures the curriculum and occupational standards are set by aviation and aerospace industry professionals.
The occupational analysis leads to the development of a list of tasks and sub-tasks, accompanied by enabling objectives and tools required to complete each sub-task. This information ultimately forms the heart of the occupational standard and the basis for the CAMC logbook, which is used for individual certification. National Standing Trade Advisory Committee (NSTAC) members from industry then review the material, ensure that it meets industry needs, and confirm that the final product reflects current accepted practices.
To date, CAMC has developed national occupational standards, in English and French, for nineteen (19) occupations.
Youth Internship Program
The CAMC Youth Internship Program (YIP) provides high school students with an academic orientation and work-based experience in aviation maintenance and aerospace technology. The YIP aims to develop interest among youth in careers within the industry. It also identifies and establishes pathways for students to link from school to skilled job opportunities in aviation and aerospace. Presently, nineteen (19) high schools are teaching CAMCs Aviation Maintenance Orientation Program (AMOP) program.
