define and assign responsibility for return to work activities.

company policy, procedures, accountability framework, evaluation
framework, communications plan, training materials and in-house
staff training.
Caldwell O'Hearn provides consulting services primarily in a
train-the-trainer format to management groups and union
representatives to help them become self-sufficient in this area.

conferences on a daily fee basis. Principals Jeff Caldwell and

legislation demystification, claims management, disability
management, modified work programs, experience rating and
ergonomics.
Assessments/Evaluations
Transferability of Skills Assessment (TSA) - useful to determine
existing skills that can be used to speed the return to work
effort. The TSA identifies jobs compatible with the client's
functional, vocational and intellectual abilities. Involves a
labour market analysis and expected wages upon return to work.
Vocational Evaluation - the goal of a vocational evaluation is
to establish the evaluee's vocational profile (vocational
strengths, limitations, barriers) which will then be utilized to
facilitate the rehabilitation process and return to work.
Labour Market Analysis - a report outlining current job
existence/availability, physical demands, environmental factors,
wages, demographics, qualifications required and employment
trends in the client's field(s) of choice in his/her geographic
area.
Psycho Vocational testing - used to generate appropriate
recommendations with regard to future occupational options.
Recommendations typically include suggestions of possible job
placement options and/or educational or retraining
possibilities. In addition, comments will be made with respect
to any management or intervention programs that may be required
to assist the client in achieving the goals proposed.
Ergonomics/Workplace design/Physical demands analysis - our long-
term experience with injured worker populations has shown over
85% of pre-accident work situations can be modified at minimal
cost to allow the employee to return to his/her regular job.
Residual Earnings Capacity Assessment - used to determine the
loss in earnings capacity incurred as a result of the
illness/injury suffered by the client. Functional ability
information is combined with vocational assessment and labour
market data to form a profile of maximal earnings potential post-
injury. The client's personal and vocational characteristics are
considered in the formulation of the REC.
Job Search Training
Caldwell O'Hearn offers effective training in job search
techniques. Our goal is not to impart the skills necessary to
find employment - our goal is to see the client employed! The
four week training course, taught in an adult-learner group
environment, thoroughly covers the basics of job search - goal
identification, resume writing, cover letters, interview
techniques, the labour market, self-assessment, applications,
etc. Participants are guided through the job search process and
practice interview and cold-call techniques.
Caldwell O'Hearn has on staff an experienced job developer who
is skilled in placing clients with disabilities.
