CIPS - National Office
Founded in 1958, CIPS is Canada's association of Information Technology (IT) professionals. CIPS represents the interests of IT professionals on issues affecting the industry and profession. Through the volunteer efforts of its Members, CIPS is involved in a number of initiatives related to public policy, setting standards within the IT profession and educating the public about IT issues. Three of the main programs are the certification of individual IT practitioners
(the Information Systems Professional - I.S.P. designation);
the accreditation of computer science, software engineering and MIS programs in Canadian colleges and universities; and educating high school students about career opportunities in IT. CIPS also offers other benefits and services to its members ranging from a Code of Ethics and Standards of Conduct to IT conferences and networking opportunities.

Information Systems Professional (i.S.P.) Designation
The Information Systems Professional of Canada (I.S.P.)
designation is Canada's only professional Information Technology
(IT) designation offered to IT professionals.
Holders of the I.S.P. designation possess the required knowledge and experience to practice in field of IT. I.S.P. designation holders also abide by a Code of Ethics and Standards of Conduct.
For the individual, the I.S.P. designation demonstrates an individual's credibility, professional image and career developemnt.
For the profession, the I.S.P. designation establishes and maintains the highest standards of practice, ethics and public protection.
The I.S.P. designation is legislated as a professional
designation in the provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

As a Member of the Canadian Information Processing Society
(CIPS), you become plugged into a national network of information

Dinner Meetings, Seminars & Special Events
Each of the 28 sections of the Canadian Information Processing
Society (CIPS) organize various dinner meetings, seminars and
special events to provide CIPS Members the opportunity to make
important professional, industry and government contacts.
Conferences
INFORMATICS is the national Information Technology (IT)
conference of CIPS (Canadian Information Processing Society)
with
over 1000 attendess from coast to coast. It is held annually.
The workshop and seminar
topics at INFORMATICS reflect the current issues and topics of
the IT industry.

Accreditation
Since 1981, CIPS has provided accreditation reviews to university
computer science and technical school information technology (IT)
programs. Accreditation provides Canada's post-secondary
educationals institutions with the benefit of an independent
review of their curricula by distinguished academic and business
leaders.
Special Interest Groups (sigs)
CIPS National and Section SIGs offer presentations and
conferences focusing on specialized topics in software, hardware,
theory and applications.
Financial Dividends
CIPS members are eligible to take advantage of the CIPS
self-directed group RSP and the CIPS members' insurance program.
