CCOHS
The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS)is
Canada's national resource for occupational health and safety
(OH&S) information and is dedicated to being the global
innovator and expert in the area of making the workplace a
healthy and safe environment.
The organization's mandate is to promote health and safety in
the workplace and encourage the application of knowledge and
methods that will lead to improved physical and mental health.
Through its products and services, that are designed with an
emphasis on prevention, CCOHS helps foster improvements in
today's workplace in the areas of Workplace Health, Ergonomics,
Job Design and safe use and control of chemicals. A non-profit
organization established in 1980 by the federal Ministry of
Labour, CCOHS is governed by members from employers, labour and
government sectors, who together ensure that impartial and
accurate health and safety information is provided to everyone
in the workplace.
Stakeholders of CCOHS include: managers, supervisors, workers,
government officials, OH&S specialists, health care
professionals, lawyers, representatives from unions and from
community and educational groups.
CCOHS supports more than 3,000 business clients and annually
provides personal service to over 20,000 Canadians by answering
their health and safety questions. Additionally, 40,000 people
per month access CCOHS' website to obtain free of charge
information.
CCOHS is very interested in attracting global business

Registry of Toxic Effects of Chemical Substances (RTECS)
previously maintained by NIOSH and now licensed through MDL
Information Services, Inc. provides toxicological information
with citations on over 150,000 chemical substances. These
detailed profiles include toxicological data and reviews;
international workplace exposure limits; references to U.S.
standards and regulations; analytical methods; and exposure and
hazard survey data. The data is compiled into substance records
for ease-of-use, and updated data is fully integrated. Original
coded NIOSH data is replaced by full text descriptions.

The RTECS disc contains English and French versions of the
RTECS database.
This CD-ROM is updated quarterly, and is available on an annual
subscription basis. It can be used on IBM-compatible computers
running Windows, or on Apple Macintoshes.
Chempendium
Comprehensive resource of chemical hazard information for
workplaces and the environment. Covers transport of hazardous
materials; descriptions of chemical toxicity; fact sheets on the
hazards and safe use of industrial chemicals and environmental
contaminants; pesticide label text and data sheets; plus,
regulatory compliance, WHMIS & Right-to-Know, workplace safety,
Canada's DSL/NDSL Lists and emergency response. Also includes
4,500 potentially toxic chemicals profiled in the HSDB (Hazardous
Substances Data Bank) database from the US National Library of

Ipcs Intox
IPCS INTOX is an integrated operational system developed by
CCOHS on behalf of, and in collaboration with, the International
Programme on Chemical Safety (IPCS) to strengthen and enhance
the services of poison control centre. Over one hundred experts
from sixty countries participate in the development of the IPCS
INTOX Package consisting of an information management software
system and a supporting database on CD-ROM. The IPCS INTOX
Package is currently available in English; French, Spanish and
Portuguese versions of the software are being developed.

Msds - Material Safety Data Sheets
Thousands of organizations worldwide trust our MSDS database as
their workplace resource for chemical hazards information. The
MSDS database gives you instant access to the most up-to-date
(approximately 120,000) Material Safety Data Sheets from 600
North American manufacturers and suppliers. The MSDS database
helps people comply with Hazard Communication, WHMIS and other
right-to-know requirements.
The MSDSs are contributed by North American sources, many from
multi-national companies which market chemical products world-
wide. MSDS records contain information such as:

- First Aid Recommendations

- Fire and Reactivity Data
- Spill and Disposal Procedures
- Storage and Handling
This database meets a growing international requirement for
health and safety information on specific chemical products. It
helps thousands of users world-wide manage their
responsibilities under workplace, environmental and other right-
to-know legislation. CCOHS developed the MSDS database in
consultation with major chemical suppliers, as an effective
method of dissemination of manufacturer and supplier MSDSs to
users. The MSDS database can be searched quickly and easily for
product names and other product identification, manufacturer or
supplier names, date of MSDS, or any term used in the text of
the MSDS itself.
Ftts
The FTSS disc provides instant access to the most up-to-date
(more than 52,000) French language Material Safety Data Sheets
from over 250 North American manufacturers and suppliers. The
MSDS database helps you to comply with Hazard Communication,
WHMIS and other right-to-know requirements.
