We are the Canadian Association for Environmental Analytical Laboratories (CAEAL), a non-profit organization dedicated to raising the level of competency, consistency, capability, and communication within environmental testing laboratories in Canada. Our member laboratories voluntarily participate in rigorous programs of certification and accreditation, demonstrating their commitment to generate high quality data. We also offer training services that support both the Accreditation and Proficiency Programs and provide opportunities for CAEAL members to gain working knowledge of some of the complex issues that face environmental testing laboratories.
Inherent in all our activities is the goal of improving the quality of environmental information in Canada and worldwide.
Accreditation currently available in the fields of chemistry, radiochemistry, microbiology, and toxicology, is based on the international standard ISO/IEC 17025. All participating laboratories are evaluated through inter-lab comparisons twice a year. Site Assessments are conducted every two years by teams of experts. Each laboratory must undertake any corrective actions within a specified period of time and to the satisfaction of a scientific panel.
