Buchanan Environmental Ltd. (incorporated 1991) is a specialized environmental firm, providing aquatic toxicity assessment of industrial effluents/wastewater, microbiological assessement of drinking water and environmental consulting services. Services are provided to an extensive number of industrial, government, and environmental agencies throughout the Atlantic region.


Buchanan Environmental Ltd. works in association with clients to provide, prompt, thorough, and responsive environmental monitoring, or regulatory compliance testing of many types of wastewater utilizing various testing procedures and aquatic test organisms. All testing is conducted in full compliance with Environment Canada biological test methods and protocols (EPS 1/RM/13,14). Testing results are expressed as a measure of lethality, LC50 or EC50 as specified.


Buchanan Environmental Ltd. uses an inovative testing methodology termed 'defined substrate technology' to provide coliform/E. coli analysis of drinking water. Test results are routinely available within 24 hours of test initiation, expressed in terms of acceptiability for consumption, and accompanied with a definative, quantitative scientific analytical report.


Buchanan Environmental Ltd. is certified and accredited by the Standards Council of Canada, in co-operation with the Canadian Association for Environmental Analytical Laboratories, for specified testing procedures and protocol. All policies, procedures and methodologies adopted by Buchanan Environmental Ltd. are binding on all affected personnel and conform to the requirements of the relevant national and international standards for laboratory competency (CAN-P-4D, ISO Guide 17025)

Aquatic Toxicity Assessment Using Acute And Sublethal Testing Procedures.
Buchanan Environmental Ltd. provides acute and sublethal toxicity assessment of effluents, wastewater and leachates, utilizing various aquatic test organisms such as: Daphnia magna, rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), Ceriodaphnia dubia, green algae (Selenastrum capricornutum). All testing is conducted promptly, in full compliance with Environment Canada biological test methods and protocols. Response is expressed as a measure of lethality, LC50/EC50, IC50 or NOEC/LOEN as specified and determined by statistical analysis. Buchanan Environmental Ltd. provides responsive, quality, toxicological assessment for all types of wastewater samples as well as guaranteed sample security and record confidentiality. Buchanan Environmental Ltd. is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC), in co-operation with the Canadian Association for Environmental Analytical Laboratories (CAEAL), for specified testing procedures and protocol. Analysis Of Drinking Water For Coliform And E. Coli Using 'defined Substrate Technology'.
Buchanan Environmental Ltd. uses an innovative testing methology termed 'Define Substrate Technology' (DST) for assessment of the potability of drinking water. This test will detect both total coliforms and Escherichia coli in either a qualitative - Presence/Absence test, or in a qualitative test called the Most Probable Number (MPN). The DST test isolates E. coli as a fecal indicator, thereby minimizing the risk of false positives from other naturally occurring non-pathogenic bacterial sources. Analytical results are routinely available within 24 hours of testing and are expressed in terms of acceptability for human consumption.
