Biothermica is a technology corporation specialized in the development, design engineering and construction of turn-key projects related to thermal treatment of gas and waste. It has three division, the Air Pollution Control Division, the Landfill Gas Management Division and the Energy Division.
In its Air Pollution Division, Biothermica developed the BIOTOX regenerative thermal oxidation process, which represents nearly eight (8) years of research and development in the treatment of volatile (VOC), condensible (COC) organic compounds and Total Reduced Sulfur (TRS) produced by industries. This technology is applied to the treatment of emissions coming from asphalt roofing and shingles, anode paste preparation (aluminum), kraft pulp, printing and painting emissions.
In 1994, Biothermica received the award of excellence in innovation by the Canada Awards for Business Excellence, for developing the BIOTOX regenerative oxidation process. Biothermica received the 1997 Environmental Award (Mrite Environnemental) from the Ministre de l'Environnement of Quebec for its BIOTOX installations treating emissions from the kraft pulp industry and from the anode preparation industry.
Biothermica also developped the CLINOX High Temperature Stainless Steel Baghouses for the treatment of particulate and installs Electrostatic Precipitators.
In its Landfill Gas Management division, Biothermica offers its internationally well known expertise: landfill gas management, control and utilization; landfill gas characterization and evaluation, design and implementation of landfill gas control and recovery systems, environmental monitoring of landfill sites and operation and maintenance of landfill gas collection systems.
Its Energy division deals with the design, financing and building of landfill gas, biomass and coal power plants. Biothermica builds and owns with SNC-Lavalin the Gazmont 25MW landfill gas power plant the former Miron quarry in Montreal.

The regenerative oxidation process called BIOTOX destroys Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), Condensible Organic Compounds (COCs), total reduced sulfurs (TRS), polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), and odors produced by different industrial processes The destruction efficiency exceeds 99%, and uses over 90% of the heat generated by the combustion of the VOCs and natural gas to preheat the gases for destruction.
Commercial applications are in asphalt roofing manufacturing plants, kraft pulping plants, anode plants (aluminum), painting shops, printing shops. BIOTOX technology is applicable for all manufacturing plants concerned about organic emissions. Biothermica also developed the regenerative catalytic oxidation process.
The Clinox dust collector can filter high-temperature gaseous effluents containing incandescent particles. This technology is based on the principle of conventional filter systems. However, it uses stainless steel filter bags which can withstand high temperatures. Clinox equipment can treat gaseous effluents from such sources as bark-boilers, cement works and metallurgical factories.
