BSI has four main products: PEAKS, PatternHunter, PROSPECT and RAPTOR. Applications for the products include: protein identification, homology search, and protein structure prediction, which are three indispensable steps for the analysis of proteins in proteomics and drug design.
PEAKS software identifies proteins from tandem mass spectrometry data, de novo, by searching a database, or by a combined approach of de novo and database search. PEAKS software outperforms all competing software, which is a well-accepted fact now in the marketplace.
PatternHunter is a general-purpose software for homology search for DNA or protein sequences. PatternHunter is the only software in the world that is up to two orders of magnitude faster than BLAST (an NIH program that finds similar parts in DNA or protein sequences, which is costing 10% of worlds supercomputing time) and with superior sensitivity. For a pharmaceutical company, using PatternHunter can save an enormous amount of money on replacing supercomputing equipments every few years. PatternHunter is already revolutionizing the way homology searches are performed.
PROSPECT and RAPTOR are software systems to predict three-dimensional structures of proteins. Both are top programs in this field.
