Berlie Technologies Inc. is a Canadian private company. It is a recognized specialist in and manufacturer of wastewater treatment equipment. Berlie offers its municipal and industrial clients a complete range of state-of-the-art equipment for use in the various stages of the wastewater treatment process.
Berlie's head office and workshops are located in La Prairie, on the south shore of Montreal. From 1979 when it was founded to 1986, Berlie specialized exclusively in the design and manufacture of complete handling systems for heavy industries such as cement plants, aluminum works, foundries and paper mills.
In 1986, a strategic reorientation resulted in the negotiation of technology transfer agreements with European companies recognized as leaders in their fields. Today, thanks to five licences and the products developed by Berlie itself, the company can offer to its customers equipment that is manufactured in Canada and meets their strictest requirements. The sale of environmental systems and equipment now accounts for nearly 90% of the company's sales figure.
This change in the direction of the company's activities has had a profound effect on Berlie's financial results: sales have doubled twice in the past eight years. This growth has necessitated several expansions of the company's offices and manufacturing shops. Berlie now has more than 70 employees.
Berlie is recognized on the Canadian market as the specialist in municipal sludge drying. All of the drying facilities currently operating in Canada have a direct link to Berlie.
On November 2nd, 1998, Berlie Technologies acquired the firm of quipement d'Acier Inoxydable Falco Inc, a company specializing in the design and manufacture of stainless steel equipment for the Agriculture and Food, Pharmaceutical and Industrial sectors.

For sludge thickening and dewatering.
The Swiss Combi technology developed by Berlie Technologies Inc. can treat sludge from municipal treatment plants as well as industrial sludges. Hot air drum drying allows for maximal reduction of the sludge volume and yields a stable, pasteurized, homogeneous granular material, which can be used as fertilizer or as fuel.
The dewatered sludge is mixed with a quantity of fine dry sludge so as to yield a solids concentration of about 55%. It then goes to a drying drum where the temperature is between 450C at the inlet and 130C at the outlet. Rotation of the drum provides uniform drying and also serves to transport the granular sludge, which then goes through a cyclone followed by a screw conveyor for cooling. Finally, a vibration sieve sorts the granules by size. Before the granules are packaged, they are brought to a temperature of 35C. A closed-circuit air dryer cycle, following by system decompression, eliminates all odors and dust.
Berlie Technologies Inc. manufactures stationary units with an evaporative capacity of 1, 000-6, 000 kg/h, mobile units with a capacity of 1, 000 kg/h and semi-mobile units with capacities of 500 and 1, 000 kg/h. The final product has a solids concentration of 92-95%.
This process stabilizes the sludge by pasteurization, destroying pathogens. The final product can be sold as fertilizer.
