Belfab designs, engineers and manufactures dust collectors at its plant near Montreal.
The firm holds a patent for its modular dust collectors which are sold in off-the-shelf compact packages. This allows low cost assembly line manufacturing and reduces transportation costs. The modular units come in an add-on compact and simple design which provides maximum flexibility at the distributor level. The equipment is sold mainly to woodworking shops through machinery distributors.
The company is attempting to penetrate the hobby-craft market through large hardware chains but is meeting with some resistance due to competition from cheap imports, mainly from Taiwan which do not offer replacement parts or service. The company's line of products complements PROCEDAIR's capability by the custom fabrication of units of up to 60, 000 CFM which is their most powerful dust collector series used mainly in woodworking industries. The latter units are sold directly, mainly in the province.
The FTA with the United States has opened this market to Belfab which, after only one year of intensive marketing, has increased exports of its modular units to the U. S. from 0 to 30% of sales through large machinery distributors, active participation in woodworking trade shows, excellent brochures and the partial use of U. S. made components.
Entry into other markets such as Mexico will be through the firm's American distributors.
