Company Overview

Barry J. Hobin and Associates Architects Incorporated offers a comprehensive range of services within the commercial, institutional, residential and entertainment sectors. Established in 1979, the firm has maintained a steady and continual growth founded on careful planning and client satisfaction. We are members of the Ontario Association of Architects and the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada.

The firm currently consists of twenty five professional staff including five registered architects. The staff profile represents a consistent group of long term employees whose technical skill and specialized experience covers both the depth and breadth of the building industry. The firm takes pride in having maintained staff longevity given the usual high and low nature of the economy.

The office is optimally staffed; large enough to provide the technical and administrative skill to undertake projects of significant scale, yet small enough to ensure the continuity and personal attention which we believe essential to design quality and a professionally responsible service.

The firm is actively involved in the design of unique projects throughout the region of Ottawa-Carleton and across Canada. These projects include the full spectrum of clients ranging from one time private commissions to repeat clients such as the National Capital Commission, Ottawa-Carleton Board of Education, the Ottawa Jewish Community, Tamarack Developments, Minto Developments, Famous Players Incorporated, and Trinity Developments.

The firm has become a successful, award winning enterprise based on innovative design concepts, and strong project management skills. All projects, regardless of scale, receive meticulous attention with respect to cost effectiveness, technical and detail resolution and the analysis of operating costs versus capital costs. This attention to detail has become the hallmark of Barry J. Hobin & Associates and results in successful projects delivered on time and within budget.

Approach to Service

We at Hobin & Associates treat the client as the most important part of out team. Each project is relished as an opportunity to find a unique solution to the clients needs and wishes. For every job, there is a team leader who pays heed to every detail from first sketch design to occupancy.

We always look for ways to maximize return on investment. Budget target and schedules are reviewed throughout all phases. Engineers and building science professionals are brought in as team members to streamline projects and ensure integration of all systems. Only the finest, state-of-the-art tools are employed for all project designs, presentations and archiving. Finally, we balance the design process with a successful business management process. The beneficiaries of this approach have always been, and always will be, our clients.

Technology Profile:

Barry J. Hobin & Associates is committed to the integration of technology into architectural practice. Detailed design and production are fully computerized utilizing the latest release of AutoCAD. Project scheduling and tracking is aided by Microsoft Project. Electronic mail and file exchange are provided to each workstation via a high speed connection to the Internet.

In-house scanning and printing/plotting capabilities permit the continuous production of high quality presentation materials as a project evolves, and the creation of a fully integrated digital project archive. Large volume print jobs are performed by our reprographics consultant via the Internet to alleviate internal congestion.

A comprehensive implementation of CAD standards ensures consistency across all working drawings and saves time in their creation and revision. A fully integrated block library further enhances the production process, eliminating redundant linework.

3D Visualization.

Our design and production personnel take advantage of three dimensional modeling software to aid in the design process. We are able to produce photo-realistic 3D renderings and animations in addition to massing studies and sun shadow studies in-house using Accurender, SketchUp and FormZ.
