BIOX was founded in September 2000 with the goal of commercializing a new technology which it had purchased from the University of Toronto, to produce methyl esters from any lipid based feedstock with fatty acid contents between 0 and 30%.
BIOX is currently in the process of building a 60 million litre (18 million gallon) biodiesel production facility in Hamilton, Ontario which will commence commissioning in June 2005.
