C4 Object-oriented Programming Language & Software
C4 is an object-oriented programming language. More than that,
it is a complete software development system that provides, in
addition to an object-oriented language, extensive libraries of
application building blocks, a powerful relational database and
an interactive programming environment. The latter allows the
user to write, edit, debug and compile programs, all without
having to exit the environment. There is no linking required so
that programs can be modified and viewed almost immediately
after the changes are made.
Some of the salient features of the C4 environment follow:
Object-oriented language This embodies all the standard features
of inheritance, polymorphism, abstraction and encapsulation.
This means C4 programs are easier to design, implement and
maintain, and are also readily reusable.
Visual user interface Applications can be built with standard
Windows features, such as scroll bars, pull-down menus, buttons,
cut and paste, read and write text files, search and replace,
mouse support and user-defined function keys.
Interactive programming environment The ability to compile
almost instantly means programs can be developed incrementally.
This allows for rapid prototyping of application systems.
Relational database C4's database has variable length fields and
records as well as multiple, automatically maintained, tree
indices. Data files can be accessed via low-level methods or
high-level SQL-like select queries. Database management tools
include fileView, browse, reporting and crossTable.
The C4 environment has been used to develop information
management systems for manufacturing applications, such as
inventory management and control, purchase order management,
sales order entry, integrated accounting, production scheduling,
job costing and payroll management.
