Assiniboine Community College has been in the business of providing quality education and training to residents of western Manitoba for nearly 40 years. The College first opened its doors in 1961 as a technical vocational training centre. In 1969 the government of Manitoba made its three vocational centres community colleges. Assiniboine remained a part of the provincial government until 1993 when it moved to board governance.
The college's main campus is located in Brandon, Manitoba. Its Parkland Campus is located in Dauphin. Sites are also located in Neepawa, Russell, Killarney, Carman and Winnipeg.
The college plays an important role in community economic development by producing graduates who are able to use their skills and talents locally and globally. For staff and students alike, Assiniboine offers a learning environment that is leading edge and vital. 85 per cent or more find employment related to their fields of study within one year of graduating. A significant number of graduates become entrepreneurs, creating jobs for themselves and others.
Students can choose from 26 certificate and diploma programs in the areas of business, agriculture, trades, health care, media and more. Most programs are one to two years in length.
The college is a leader in distance education technology. A variety of courses are made available either through traditional print-based methods, teleconferencing, videoconferencing, on-line computer and internet technology, or any combination thereof. The college offers over 120 distance education courses in eight academic programs
