Architects Four Limited was formed in 1975 as a cooperative venture of four individual firms. This unique concept has brought together the experience, specialized knowledge and resources necessary to undertake a complex range of design and construction projects. The cooperative structure allows the flexibility to offer clients the capacity of a large firm with the personalized attention expected from a much smaller firm. Today the practice is under the directorship of Pierre Gallant, Dianne Bourgeois-VanDommelen, Andrew McGillivary and Jeff VanDommelen.
The principals of Architects Four have designed building projects with an aggregate construction value worth over one billion dollars. Their projects have been recognized for their economy, their efficiency and their good design sense. Many have received recognition through various awards and honors. The scope of these projects is all encompassing. The range includes healthcare, educational, institutional, industrial, commercial, recreational and residential work. This work also includes extensive non-building projects such as urban planning studies, programming exercises, site evaluations and building analyses.

Much of the design conceptualizing is assisted by computers. Architects Four has six PC graphic workstations residing on a local area network. The design team can work simultaneously on a single project or many differing projects, sharing the same extensive database and CD-ROM library. Sophisticated software for presentation graphics, three dimensional modeling, rendering and animation studies allow a great deal of flexibility in the production process. Outputting is to a choice of inkjet printing devices on the network, form letter to D-size (24 x 36 inch), in color or black and white.
Production of contract documents, both working drawings and specifications are fully computerized on a networked UNIX environment, again allowing the combined production staff to share resources. The CAD software is Mountaintop by Accugraph running on two Hewlett Packard RISC workstations with five X-Window terminal. Compatibility with other CAD software is ensured with translation capabilities, and direct read/write to Autocad's DWG format. Complex full-size drawings are produced at 600 dpi within 5 minutes on an E-size inkjet plotter.
All computer stations are linked to the Internet through the networks' dedicated fileserver, allowing the ready exchange of information and ideas with our clients and consultants, generally enhancing project communications.
