Annapolis Valley Peat Moss Co. Ltd.

AVP Cansorb is the environmental division of Annapolis Valley Peat Moss Co. Ltd. (AVP) which first entered the business of harvesting, processing, and packaging sphagnum peat moss in 1949. Since those early years, the company has grown and diversified so that today, the AVP Group operates six production facilities in Canada and the United States and records annual exports to over 25 countries around the world. AVP Cansorb TM is involved in and looking for additional distribution worldwide.

The environmental division of the group manufactures the Cansorb TM line of organic oil absorbants which are used in numerous environmental applications such as: Absorbent material for accidental spills of hydrocarbons and chemicals, Bioremediation of hydrocarbon contaminated soil, and, Filtration medium for hydrocarbon and chemical contaminated water.

The Cansorb TM line of products have been specifically developed to offer a sustainable and cost-effective alternative to the traditional products used in remediating hydrocarbon and chemical spills. A further expansion of the product line has been the development of contaminated water filtration units and the development of applications in the bioremediation of hydrocarbon contaminated soil.

In addition to the cost-effectiveness of Cansorb TM at the application stage, there are substantial savings to be realized at the disposal stage as well. Due to its high absorption rate (up to 9 times its weight) and range of disposal options (incineration, fuel blending, bioremediation), disposal costs can be reduced by as much as 90% when compared to traditional sorbents.

AVP is committed to further improvements to the Cansorb TM line of products through continual research and development programs. The goal of this program will be to develop sustainable, cost-effective solutions for the environmental challenges of tomorrow.
