The Alberta Construction Safety Association is a non-profit organization funded and directed by industry. The Association consists of construction industry volunteers supported by a team of professionals. All the people involved with the ACSA, from the origin of the idea to the present, share a common vision, which generally stated, is that through cooperative efforts of all those involved, the construction environment in Alberta will be the safest anywhere. To realize this vision, the ACSA is embarking on the following mission.
'The mission of the Alberta Construction Safety Association is to provide quality advise to the construction employers and employees that will lead to reduced human and financial costs associated with accidents in the construction industry.'
As stated in the Mission Statement this quality advice will primarily be in the form of education, training, information and resource material for managers, supervisors and workers. The long term objective of the Alberta Construction Safety Association include such things as:
Development of industry wide safety standards Information systems for members, such as statistics and library services Direct representation with employers in regulatory matters Trade specific and generic Safe Operation Manuals
The ACSA is funded by the construction industry through a levy on the companies Workers Compensation Board (WCB) premium assessment. However, the ACSA is not a government organization. It is not connected in any way to the WCB or Occupational Health & Safety other than working with these organizations to promote safety in the construction industry.
The ACSA utilizes the health & safety professionals through out the province in Regional Safety Committees. These regional safety committees act as local representation for the ACSA in the rural communities. The committee meets quarterly and promotes health & safety in their areas throughout the year to workers, companies & the community. Regional Safety Committees are located in Edmonton, Calgary, Red Deer, Grande Prairie, Lethbridge, Lloydminster, Fort McMurray, Hinton/Edson, & Medicine Hat. There are also two satellite committees located in Bonnyville/Cold Lake/Grand Centre area and Peace River area.
