Access Digital Media
Sonoptic Technologies Inc. is a service bureau. Its
services center on the conversion of conventional video programs
into digital video files. Video as a program recorded on a tape
changed into a file used by a computer expands the modelling and
communicating power of any video, new and old. Sonoptic person-
nel apply television production and engineering expertise to
ensure quality in the conversion process. Video as MPEG-1 files
on a CD played back on a PC, or as MPEG-2 files played over a
LAN or through a switched network from a hard drive, transforms
moving image use completely.
Sonoptic specializes in the real-time encoding of video and
television formats at broadcast-quality standards. PAL and
NTSC formats in all television media configurations, including
16mm film, are processed. For clients needing more structure
and assistance, Sonoptic creates user interfaces for easy data-
base access, or user-friendly interactive formats for training
or archiving use.
Sonoptic Technologies Inc., established in 1995, is a subsi-
diary of Magic Lantern Communications, Canada's largest distri-
butor of video for education and training use, in business since
1974.
Sonoptic markets its services into Ontario and Quebec and across
the Atlantic provinces. Serving telephone company expansion into
broadband service delivery in particular, it is now extending
its marketing presence into the Eastern seaboard of the US. Set
up for efficient encoding of large video volume, it anticipates
the emergence of new markets for digitizing, re-purposing and
archiving video production in all formats.
