Service SS Security Scans Service overview Security scans (penetration tests) of the site will be accomplished using many fully- and semi- automated product such as Cybercop Scanner by Network Associates. Generally, the following takes place in order:
A detailed probe of ports is conducted on Internet or Intranet gateway machines and devices. The probe discovers what ports are serviced / opened / vulnerable and which are not. Around 400 known network vulnerabilities are then attempted both on the internal and external sides of the gateways. The actual traffic is also scanned for vulnerabilities. By default only unobtrusive tests are performed. Should a client desire to be tested for various denial-of-service attacks, this can be provided at no additional charge signed consent will be required. Scan results, including vulnerabilities and security breaches, are provided to the client in a scan report. A post scanning meeting is convened between the Tyger Team consultant, the site administrators, and key individuals. The group discusses the test results and the required measures that would improve the sites security posture. A decision is taken whether the client staff or a Tyger Team consultant will accomplish the necessary repairs and patches. Consulting fees for network repairs and patches are discussed at this time. To ensure continued security posture, regular (weekly or monthly) follow-up tests are often scheduled for a reasonably low price. Of concern is not the brand name of the equipment used to secure the client network or server, as long as it does a proper job. Tyger Team helps to assure security of client networks as much as possible, by leveraging already installed equipment and by using in-house technical and security personnel. An independent audit can help protect the integrity of client networks and, in the process, save money by decreasing unnecessary or ineffective Internet security measures. This simple but powerful audit service has been developed in response to requests from numerous clients. With the increased vulnerability of global computer networks and the raising competitive pressure to provide services through the Internet, public agencies and private corporations need to ensure that the integrity of their data and that of their own customers is well preserved. Many executives do not fully realize how much data within their area of responsibility are accessible by penetrating the corporate Internet. Well-publicized cases of altering government documents prove that no one is immune from hackers located far away or within the organization. Just as with financial audits, no one can rely entirely on the tests done by the hardware/software vendors and on test done by internal staff. Security audits, conducted by independent professionals, are needed. Service clients Tyger Team provides this service to clients worldwide. Corporations, government agencies and financial institutions, that must maintain sensitive data on their sites, benefit from Tyger Team security scans. Service deliverables Cursory security scan The cursory security scan comprises a detailed probe of ports by Cybercop Scanner on one Internet or Intranet gateway machine or device. A typical deliverable of the cursory security scan is a three-to- seven-page report describing which ports are serviced / opened / vulnerable and which are not. This report is usually provided in text format presented by subject. Detailed security scan The detailed security scan comprises security scans using many fully- and semi- automated products such as Cybercop Scanner by Network Associates. A detailed probe of all ports is conducted on all Internet or Intranet gateway machines and devices. Around 400 known network vulnerabilities are investigated, both on the internal and external sides of the gateways. Also, the actual traffic is scanned for vulnerabilities. Optionally, various denial-of-service attacks can be attempted. A typical deliverable of the detailed security scan is a ten-to- hundred-page report describing which ports are serviced / opened / vulnerable, their operating systems, the various penetration paths, their vulnerabilities, recommendations how to secure, etc. This report is usually provided in html format presented by IP or by service. Ample hypertext links are included. This report is also available in text format presented by subject. Professional delivery Generally, a Tyger Team associate does the security scan and report.
